New Moon, Solar Eclipse & Mercury Retrograde – All In Virgo, Baby

The New Moon in Virgo (exact at 2:03 am PDT on September 1st) brings issues of health, daily routines and work relationships to the spotlight.  Both Sun and Moon join at 9° Virgo to create the second and final solar eclipse of 2016.

Virgo encourages order and efficiency.  She is often described as the “Mary Poppins” of the zodiac – practically perfect.  She is mutable earth; she helps us transform through improvement.  She helps us make to-do lists and organize the clutter.  She helps us purge and get rid of the things we don’t need.  Throw it away, give it away, or sell it – now is the time!

Virgo likes schedules and planning.  Ever analytical, she is ruled by Mercury, the planet of intellect and discernment.  We see this in the very cerebral and organized approach that Virgo takes to being in the body.

Virgo promotes self-care.  She likes to clean and groom the body, just as much as she appreciates a tidy home and a clean car.  For Virgo, this is about self-respect and wellness, not being flashy or fancy.

Virgo relates to the abdomen, gallbladder and intestines.  Many of us find ourselves more apt to pay attention to issues regarding our digestion and our diet during “Virgo season” (August 22nd – September 22nd), while the Sun is lighting up Virgo in the zodiac.

Back to the eclipse:

We talk a lot about Moon cycles (of course), as well as the cycles of the other personal planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn).  We touch on the cycles here and there about the generational planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto).  And eclipses have their own cycles, and their own method of impacting our lives.

The eclipses happen 4-6 times/year between pairs of opposite signs.  We are currently experiencing the Pisces/Virgo axis, which began back in March 2015 and will finish up in February 2017.

Each pair of opposing signs remains highlighted during an eclipse cycle for 18 to 24 months.  Unlike planets and asteroids, which are moving “forward” through the signs (unless they are in a retrograde cycle), the eclipses are gradually moving “backward” through the signs upon their axis.  The Aries/Libra axis turned into the Pisces/Virgo axis, which will then turn into the Aquarius/Leo axis.

As the Pisces/Virgo axis has been taking over, the Aries/Libra axis has been loosening.  We experienced the last eclipse on the Aries/Libra axis on 3/23/16 (it was a lunar eclipse/full moon at 3° Libra).  2015/2016 have been big years for those of us who strongly identify with the signs Pisces, Virgo, Aries or Libra.

Identifying with a zodiac sign is not dependent on your natal Sun being in that sign.  Our Ascendant and Moon signs are just as important as our Sun sign when we think of “who we are” and what zodiac traits we are going to personify and connect to.  The other thing to pay attention to is where your “clusters” are.  For example, I have a huge portion of my chart clustered into the sign of Libra, which rules my 5th house.  The cluster happens to include my Venus, Pluto, North Node and Sun.

Astrology is so layered, and yet so simple.  I highly recommend taking a look at what is being affected for you on the Pisces/Virgo axis and how you can work with these transformative eclipses.  See my recommendations below for my two favorite Western astrologers in the Seattle area.

One of the other major things that is happening with this New Moon/solar eclipse is Mercury RetrogradeDUN DUN DUN DUUUNNNN!

Mercury went retrograde 2 days ago on August 30th at 6:04 am PDT at 29° Virgo.

Now, relax.  Pay attention to what you’re doing and saying (Mercury retrogrades will often bring issues of communication to the surface, as Mercury rules communication, intellect, transportation and technology).  But Mercury goes retrograde 3-4 times/year, more than any other planet in our solar system.  It’s nothing we haven’t dealt with before.

That said, with this retrograde, Mercury will be calling us to review issues relating to Virgo (health, work, duties, punctuality, efficiency), as well as issues relating to the house Virgo rules for you personally in your natal chart.  Due to the retrograde, Mercury will remain in Virgo for just over 2 months, which is a long time for Mercury to be in one sign.

Mercury is being supported right now by expansive Jupiter (who is hanging out at 28° Virgo), but Jupiter will be joining Venus in Libra in just a few days on September 9th.  By then, Venus will be at 13° Libra, but I can see the energy from September 9th – September 23rd (when Venus crosses over into Scorpio) as having great potential for romance as Venus is especially powerful in Libra, Taurus and Pisces.  Venus is the planet of love, beauty, art, sensuality and all things related to the divine feminine.  She is the singular ruler of both Libra and Taurus; those signs are her domiciles.  She is exalted in the dreamy sign of Pisces, and her “fall” (her detriment) is in the sign of pragmatic Virgo.

The recent Mercury/Venus/Jupiter conjunction at 27-28° Virgo was beautiful and potentially intense (especially for those who identify strongly with Virgo, or who have significant planets/aspects around the late degrees of Virgo).  However, now that Venus is roaming free in Libra (as of 8/29 at 7:07 pm PDT), she can really start to do her magic.  And when benevolent Jupiter joins her in Libra, he simply expands her potential.

Both Jupiter and Venus are known as the most “supportive” planets besides the Sun and the Moon in terms of their astrological influence.  They are the ones making our lives easier, while planets like Mars and Saturn are supposed to challenge us, ideally for our growth and not our detriment!

Allow the supportive energies to work with you where they need to.

Allow the challenging energies to do their thing.

Allow transformation to happen, on any and every level that you are willing to receive it.

Allow yourself to be the master creator of this thing called “your life.”

May the organized and health-focused energy of Virgo work with you as you create your master plan, deep clean your home, re-commit to your health and tackle your to-do list.  Let her busy and prudent nature invigorate you and prepare you for the change of season.

Go within and get very quiet at some point today.  Let the New Moon plant her own seeds in you.

You don’t have to do anything.

Just listen.

Just observe.

Just receive.

New Moon in Leo and the Dance of Saturn and Mars

As I write this, the Crone Moon is riding the waves of Cancer, keeping me domestic and tender.  She is guiding us within even as she prepares to light us up with the fiery and brave intentions of Leo, the noble Lion.  She enters the sign of Leo on Monday at 6:12pm PDT, and her newness will be exact at 1:45pm PDT on Tuesday, August 2nd

Leo the Lion is tossing his mane right now!

When La Luna is reborn as new, she is directly within the light of the Sun, which is why we don’t see her.  This time can offer so much illumination, for the life-giver (Sun) is in perfect alignment with the inner-self, the emotional self, the secret self: which is represented by Moon.

Month by month, we look at where this is happening in our PERSONAL natal chart in order to gain clarity and direction regarding how the illumination is happening SPECIFICALLY within our individual lives.  When you read horoscopes, I highly recommend that you read them according to your RISING sign, not your sun sign.  If you do not know your rising sign, www.astro.com is a great resource for this.  Go to “extended chart selection” under “Free Horoscopes” and you will easily be able to pull your own chart for free (chart type: Natal Chart Wheel).  I recommended selecting “whole signs” under “House System” (under “Options”).  I talk a little about why I use the whole sign house system in my “about” section on this blog.

This month, we are in the time of self-expression, pleasure and passion.  Leo himself is ruled by the Sun, and the Sun is all about IDENTITY and PURPOSE.  Leo the Lion is dramatic and theatrical by nature, and he shines from the sheer pleasure of DOING WHAT HE LOVES TO DO.  His true nature is loyal and honorable, offering his heart of gold to his close relationships.  The world is a stage for the Lion; he is an exhibitionist and an extrovert, which some of us can relate to and some of us can’t.  But the thing to remember is that he exists for all of us.  All of us contain the entire zodiac within us, for each house is ruled by one of the twelve signs.  So you might not identify strongly with Leo characteristics (or you might), but Leo does preside over a certain area of your life, astrologically-speaking.

If your Sun/Moon/Ascendant/North Node is in Leo, you will undoubtedly be experiencing a certain spotlight and intensity right now, and you may feel “personally” reborn or re-ignited at this time.  But for all of us, this bright, successful, charismatic and joyful Leo style pervades some aspect of our charts.  For me, Leo rules my 3rd house of writing, intellect and communication.  I also have Saturn in my 3rd house, the disciplinarian.  Saturn makes us work.  But he also rewards us with structural support and tangible outcomes – when WE WORK (more precisely, when we work where our work is needed/appreciated).  So I’m letting this Moon speak to me specifically in this area.

Doing the “personal research” to find out how what signs rule what houses in your natal chart is easy and free!  I offer natal chart coaching sessions on a donation basis to help people understand the basics of their personal astrology and how planetary transits are affecting them now.  My contact information is below.  Sessions are completely confidential.

This New Moon in Leo is being ignited even further by the fact that Mars, planet of passion and action, is moving into Sagittarius on Tuesday at 10:49 am PDT.  You might be well-versed in the latest Mars retrograde “escapade” – or you might not – so here’s a little recap:

Mars began his retrograde at 8° Sagittarius on April 17th of this year.  He fell back into Scorpio on May 28th.  He stationed direct at 23° Scorpio on June 29th Now he is switching signs (and houses) for the last time until he enters Capricorn on September 27th.  He won’t retrograde again until June 2018, so hopefully we have learned something from this “recoiling” of Mars energy.  We all need to be able to utilize our passion and desire, we need to have an outlet for aggressive energy, we need permission (from ourselves!) to be direct and ask for what we want.

Mars and Saturn will be dancing together in Sagittarius again come the New Moon.  The dance of these two very masculine, challenging and hard-working planets really began back on February 19th when Mars reached 23° Scorpio, a specific point that we would later see lit up for an extended period of time when Mars stationed direct at that degree on June 29th.  While Mars is re-entering Sagittarius, Saturn is hanging out at 9° Sagittarius, which is significant because Mars was at 8° Sagittarius when he went retrograde on April 17thAt the point of the Mars retrograde, Saturn was at 15° Sagittarius, and Saturn will return to that degree on November 7th of this year (the day before the much-anticipated United States presidential election).

On a larger scale, we can look at the Mars/Saturn dance as spanning from 2/19/16-11/24/16.

For tracking the personal lessons that are being revealed by the Mars retrograde, pay attention to events between 4/17/16-8/21/16 (Mars began his retrograde at 8° Sagittarius on 4/17, and he will return to that degree on 8/21).

The most recent Saturn retrograde began on March 25th when the planet of structure and containment was at 16° Sagittarius.  He will go direct on August 13th, a few days before our next Full Moon, at 9° Sagittarius.  He himself will return to 16° Sagittarius on November 16th of this year.

I know some of you might feel lost with this information right now, but try to pay attention to these dates – both the things that happen directly on or near these dates, but also the over-arching life experiences and lessons happening within the bookends of the two time frames I have listed above.

If you have access to your natal chart, hone in on the area between 23° Scorpio and 16° Sagittarius.  Which houses are being affected?  What planets/asteroids/angles/nodes exist here?  This particular segment of your chart has been getting A LOT of attention, and that won’t really let up until after November 24th, when Saturn moves beyond 16° Sagittarius.

On August 24th, Mars and Saturn will make their exact conjunction at 9° Sagittarius.  I will discuss this further when I share my thoughts regarding our next Full Moon on August 18th.  The main thing to keep in mind is that Mars is action and Saturn is discipline.  Together they can accomplish a lot, if their influence is being channeled for growth and constructive action.  The fact that they are joining up in Sagittarius is great news because the Archer is both adventurous and benevolent, kind and driven, brave and compassionate.  Sagittarius is mutable (changeable) and ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion and good fortune.

Saturn obviously moves more slowly than Mars because he is farther from the Sun and his orbit is larger, but he will be moving ESPECIALLY slow around the time that he is stationing direct on the 13th.  Remember, this is all happening in our perception from Earth, and this is exactly how we will harness the power of these heightened times: through our perception.

I am a firm believer in the power of self-inquiry.  See for yourself what happens when you dig into your own astrology.  See how your perception might shift when you read your horoscopes based on your rising sign instead of your Sun sign.

Our individual lives co-create the pattern of the world stage.  It is irresponsible for any of us to hide our gifts at this time.

If we are unsure of where our talents lie and how to bring them out, diving into self-inquiry is a great way to get in touch with the “you” that came here to shine in a specific way.  Self-love and self-care are essential components in unlocking our gifts.  There is no shame in prioritizing our health and well-being.  The world needs our vibrancy and our willingness, not a limiting shadow of who we really are.

There is a quote from the Gospel of Thomas (found in the Gnostic Gospels) that I simply love, and I feel that it applies well with this Leo New Moon:

“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”

~~~
Currently, I do not write horoscopes for each sign.  Instead, I give a general overview of how specific planets in our solar system are affecting us astrologically, centering around the New Moon and Full Moon.  When I give natal chart coaching sessions, I discuss your personal astrology as well as the current planetary transits that are at play and what areas of your life are being affected by those transits.
Much love and New Moon blessings!
Also, here is a beautiful song by Dead Can Dance (called “Rakim” on their album Toward the Within).
If this song doesn’t set the tone for a favorable New Moon, I don’t know what does!
Shine on.
July 4th New Moon in Cancer
Tonight begins the New Moon, dear ones.  It will be exact tomorrow (July 4th) at 4:01 am PDT.  This gives us a bit of stillness, a bit of quiet, a bit of need for retreat with this U.S. holiday.  We are also under the spell of the Moon, the Sun and Mercury all in Cancer right now.
Cancer is the only sign ruled by La Luna.  She is perhaps the most sensitive to the tides out of all the water signs, and we know all water signs run deep with emotions and intuitive energy.  Cancer is all about security and protection.  She is associated with home and family; she is the ultimate caretaker.  She is the Crab and known for acting moody, but she only does this to protect her sensitivities.  The Crab is soft and delicious inside.  She carries her shelter and all her defenses with her to protect the beautiful, tender, succulent inner-being.  She is extremely loyal, and she is cautious about who is allowed in her inner circle of friends and confidants.  She is highly clairvoyant (like all water signs), so truth-telling is really the best way to go with Cancer-types.  She will FEEL lies or evasive energy even if you are totally playing it cool.  This will lead to a disruption in the force, and somehow the truth will be revealed.  Cancer asks for respect, for that is the code she lives by.
So, we’ve got Luna nice and strong in the sign of her domain AND she is dark, telling us to quiet, quiet, quiet down.  Not an easy thing to do with the fireworks displays and party propaganda.  But you can find a moment, or a few moments here and there, to just sit and be still.  To listen and tune in and FEEL.   There might be a pull to isolate a little bit, especially with all the Cancer energy calling us into our shells, calling us to retreat and follow the tides.  There also can be a pull to have relationship talks.  This is a good time for communicating and intimacy, but not for ultimatums or decision-making.  When Luna is dark, we are assessing and processing, not acting yet.
A little on Mars stationing direct:
I am staying out on a sweet little island near Seattle this weekend.  I have been in need of retreat for some time, and finally here I am.  The recent Mars retrograde (4/17/16-6/29/16) kind of kicked my butt…especially as it activated my 7th house of relationships and dropped back into my 6th house of health and work.  I was delighted when Mars stationed direct this past Wednesday (at 4:38 pm PDT), and I think that has a lot to do with my natal Mars being in Cancer himself (in my 2nd house of values, pleasure and resources).  Mars is somewhat debilitated in Cancer’s introverted, lunar energy.  When Mars is retrograde, our “personal” Mars is also activated, and I have been aggressively bumping up against how my own yang energy really needs a sense of safety, trust, boundaries and emotional clarity.  Otherwise the passion of my Mars will leak out in unhealthy passive aggressive ways like feeling shut down, brooding, going silent, or getting pissed out of the blue because I haven’t communicated my needs (or maybe haven’t even been in touch with my needs).  For me, patient communication and lots of self-care are the necessary ingredients to supporting my ability to express my needs, desires and emotions in a healthy and intelligent way.
The stationing period of any planet is a “thick” time, so to speak.  The apparent planetary movement is very, very, VERY slow during stationing (direct or retrograde).  Mars stationing direct can bring up a lot of challenging issues regarding how we get triggered and how we deal with passionate energy like anger, competition and our sense of power.  This can be a time when big things seem to be “falling apart” – relationships that don’t work, jobs that we’re sick of, where we live needing to change.  Even our very identity can feel put to the test.  What are we made of?  What are we REALLY made of when we take off the mask?
I encourage you to spend some time during this New Moon to take off your mask, safely within the recesses of your mind and heart.  Give yourself precious moments of alone time.  Connect with family and those close to you and notice how gifted this time is.  Our lives are so very short, so very fleeting.  It is by miraculous chance and power that we are “here” in these bodies.  These changing, sacred vessels for life are the homes we carry for our souls in this lifetime.  Emotional freedom, connection, security, love, protection and tenderness are the birthrights of every single soul.  Not only souls who have money.  Not only souls who fit the mold of the environment.  Not only souls who appear to be doing good works.  Every soul.
May we offer this protection, this love, this shelter to our own sweet souls.  May we become very quiet and very still now and then, reserving time and space for this inner noticing.  Sitting near water is very helpful for this.
May we often allow any and all concepts of who we are/what we own/what we have control over to just dissolve completely for a few moments, especially during New Moon.  Go into this dark time ready to transform.
Honor the self.  Honor all the parts, the “this is where I’m at,” the “this is what I need.”  Honor your bandwidth and your emotional capacity.  Honor even your insecurities!  We think it’s so bad to admit that we have them, like it is weak to have a bruised ego or feel jealous or hurt or confused.  It is human, my loves!  We help each other when we admit how human we really are.
Free yourself.  Even here in the privacy of your own heart.  Especially here.
May the heart of love flower upon your mind.
I love you.
Gemini New Moon with Venus Conjunction
When the New Moon occurs in Gemini this evening (June 4th) at 8:00pm PDT, the luminous Venus is right next to that Sun/Moon conjunction (all three planets inside of 14 degrees Gemini).  This is a special time.  Not only are we beginning a new lunar cycle and (consciously or unconsciously) setting intentions, we are also literally “lined up” with the planet of love and divine feminine energy.  But we are on our side of the Sun and Venus is on the other, so we can’t directly see her these days.  Right now, Venus is almost cazimi (in the heart of the Sun).  She forms her superior conjunction with the Sun on Monday, and the effect of Venus cazimi can be felt for several days before and after this conjunction – even more so if your Sun, Moon, North Node or rising sign is in Taurus or Libra (both ruled by Venus).
When a planet is cazimi, it is strengthened through a temporary weakening.  It is both illuminated and immobilized.  When absorbed by the light of the Sun, the cazimi planet is no longer operating on its own accord.  There is a surrender that takes place, and a burning away of falsehood much like purification.  Venus cazimi is invisible to us, but illuminated unto herself.  She is feeding upon the Sun’s brightness.
Venus has been hiding from our view since April when she ceased her role as the morning star.  She will return to her other role as the evening star in August (I can’t wait because I am NOT a morning person, but I LOVE staring at Venus).  Right now, she is collecting knowledge and experience as she travels through Gemini.  This is a time for information gathering about things you love and things you desire.  This is a time to explore the edges of your beliefs, including beliefs about your very identity, what you like and what makes you feel good.
This time may also be pointing to questions about purpose.  Is there a wildly wonderful dream that you’ve been sitting on?  Do you want it to become real?  Make a plan of action now!  Let the plan be led by your desire…..and give thanks for that which is manifesting through your desire!  Receive the messages that come.
Venus rolls into Cancer on June 17th at 12:39pm PDT, and at that point there may be some sensitivities that arise in the realm of love, as well as an urge to protect and shield that which is dear to us.  Take the next couple weeks to really ride on the Gemini energy, which is very cerebral, creative, analytical and fun.
The other very interesting thing that is happening with this New Moon is the mutable grand cross that is formed by Moon/Sun/Venus opposing Saturn in Sagittarius, and squaring Jupiter and the North Node in Virgo on one side, and Neptune and the South Node in Pisces on the other.  So, the mutable energies of Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces are creating a powerful cross image.  Mutable means changeable, and willingness to change is exactly what this grand cross is encouraging and maybe even demanding from us.
As always, it is so important to understand your own natal chart in order to interpret planetary happenings for yourself personally.  If you know nothing else, know your rising sign!  Your rising sign determines which sign rules the first house of “your zodiac.”  For me, Gemini rules my first house, and this New Moon/Venus conjunction is happening right between my ascendant and my Lilith.
Gemini loves change the most out of all the signs – change as in variety, diversity and the newest information.  Gemini isn’t here to reinvent the wheel like Aquarius (the revolutionary) – Gemini wants to look at the tapestry of it all, Gemini wants to connect the dots and above all, keep things INTERESTING.  Gemini loves and needs to talk (or write).  Gemini craves communication, the wittier the better.
On Sunday, La Luna is void (making no major aspects) in Gemini until entering Cancer at 8:41pm PDT.  In general, the New Moon is a time to gather ourselves, nurture ourselves, go within and reflect.  We are in a liminal space of transformation, and we are shedding a skin, so to speak.  Planting seeds of intention at this time, with or without ritual, is very powerful and very in tune with the rhythm of Gaia, our Earth.  This is a very receptive time and potentially a vulnerable time.  When Luna is void on Sunday, be advised to hold off on judgment about anything and everything!  There are messages that might be coming through to you.  Let your thoughts die down so you can receive them.  If you hear only silence, what is the silence gifting you?
When Luna rolls into Cancer on Sunday evening, there may be a feeling of contraction, an awareness of your vulnerability and an urge to protect yourself emotionally.  Luna rules Cancer, and she is strong while riding through the sign of her domain.  Cancer is all about nurturing and empathizing, but without a sense of security she will suffer.  She can teach us a lot about self-love if we are willing to listen to her needs for both closeness and boundaries.
Quick Mars reminder:  Mars continues his reverse plunge backwards in Scorpio until June 29th, when he stations direct.  Rapid and decisive change is common with Mars retrograde.  In Scorpio, Mars leaves no stone unturned and no closet unopened.  The house ruled by Scorpio in your natal chart is getting a real tune-up with the planet of action and motivation re-carving his tracks.  However, Mars is not a feel-good planet, so the energy might feel a bit abrasive, competitive or even angry at times.  By honoring the spectrum of emotions within us, and by recognizing emotion simply as energy, the loaded fire of Mars can become a tool for empowerment versus a dangerous cannon.
New Moon
New Moon
Sing me your tune
As I slide invisible
Under your skin
Gemini Moon
Swing Moon
I’ll melt in you soon
Your eyes match my eyes
Your smile matches my grin
*
Into your darkness I ride
Both exquisite and strange
The future untold
All that’s promised is change
Pisces New Moon and Solar Eclipse
The New Moon and total Solar eclipse that will occur tomorrow (3/8/16) has a major spotlight on Pisces.  Look at what house rules Pisces in your natal chart to see where this influence is happening most significantly for you personally.  Also, if your Sun/Moon/Rising sign is in Pisces, or if you have “a lot going on” with planets/asteroids/Lilith in the house ruled by Pisces in your natal chart, this upcoming Solar eclipse is likely to have an especially powerful effect on you.
Luna enters the waters of Pisces at 11:08am today (PST).  Pisces is traditionally ruled by Jupiter, which is probably why it has a reputation for being the sweetest, kindest and most altruistic of the three water signs.  Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, universally ruling the 12th house of karma, blind-spots, the subconscious and the soul.  The modern ruler of Pisces is Neptune, who is both the master of confusion and deception, as well as the magician of dreams, psychic-awareness and inspiration.  Neptune himself is riding through the waters of Pisces until 2025.  Neptune is strong here, holding court.  Right now the Sun, Mercury, Chiron and the South Node are all in Pisces together.  The Moon is about to join the bubble bath with them, and Venus will soon follow suit this coming Saturday.  It looks like the Piscean Sea is the place to be right now!
My natal Moon is in Pisces, who rules my 10th house of career and social status.  Natal Moon is all about inner-self, intimacy, soul and emotions.  Am I feeling these transits?  Why yes, I am.
When the Moon’s shadow covers the Earth on Tuesday, both Moon and Sun in Pisces will be directly opposite Jupiter in Virgo.  Oppositions represent challenges, but Jupiter is ceaselessly benevolent, even when he is in the sign of his detriment.  In Virgo, Jupiter expands issues of health, work and service.  In opposition to both Moon and Sun in Pisces, he has a sobering effect.  We are being asked to add practicality and sensible action to our dreams right now.  We are also being reminded to not skimp on self-care!
This year’s only total Solar eclipse will be visible from Indonesia and from the nearby Pacific Ocean.  It will be exact at 5:54pm PST on Tuesday.  You don’t have to see an eclipse in order to feel it and work with its energy.
New Moon rituals are always a beautiful thing, a time to go within, entering the void of your own being.  Ground your awareness in this dark space.  The Piscean Sea is being stirred by a powerful hand and a reckoning is occuring.  If you are in denial about anything, it will feel increasingly uncomfortable to let that denial run your life.  If illusion is blocking your clear vision or if you are suppressing emotions, the dam is primed to burst.  Creativity flows through you when you drop the façade, so whatever it is, drop it now.
All eclipses can act as doorways for change and transformation.  Enter this Solar eclipse portal and let the answers you seek rise from your subconscious, from your dreams, from your own psychic awareness.  Magick is happening all around us.  Big shifts are often necessary for our growth, and we can allow the metamorphic power of an eclipse the pull us through the change like riding a big wave.
Blessings upon your evolution.
New Moon in Aquarius and Happy Year of the Fire Monkey!
The new moon in Aquarius was exact at 6:39am PST this morning, harkening in the Year of the Red Fire Monkey in the Chinese zodiac.  The Chinese New Year begins on the second new moon after the Winter Solstice.  I find the interplay between the Chinese zodiac and the zodiac of Western astrology to be quite fascinating – there are so many layers to dig into within each system, and when we merge them together we are given a broad, holistic view of our astrological make-up.
The new moon is conjoined with the sun in Aquarius today – wild, rebellious and determined.  Aquarius is the fixed air sign, very mentally stimulating as well as firm in its views.  Aquarius is ruled traditionally by Saturn, the taskmaster and disciplinarian, but the modern ruler of Aquarius is Uranus, the planet of innovation, transformation and disruption.  This speaks to why Aquarius is able to contain such driven and focused energy, while at the same time remaining eccentric and untamed.
The Chinese New Year always occurs with the new moon in Aquarius, but the Monkey can straddle the spectrum of Aquarius deftly, for he is naturally wild and free, but also ambitious and mentally astute.  In particular, the Fire Monkey is a yang animal with the most yang energy of all the Chinese elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Metal, Wood).
We are being invited into this new moon cycle and into this Chinese New Year with a high level of intensity, intellectual passion and a need for revolutionary change.  What will you set yourself free from this moon cycle?  What kind of big picture liberation do you want to experience in your own life this year?  The Red Fire Monkey is here to facilitate empowering metamorphosis on a micro/macro, personal/political scale in 2016.  Here we go!
Our sun in Aquarius experienced a hard square to fiery Mars in Scorpio early yesterday morning, and today the new moon herself is squaring the red planet.  This is challenging energy that is bound to unearth hard feelings like anger, fear, resentment and jealousy.  Yuck, yuck, yuck!  It is time to tune in and observe.  Mars likes conflict, and as the traditional ruler of Scorpio, he is very powerful in the deep waters of the Scorpion.  In a square aspect with the sun and moon, he is literally banging on the doors of our consciousness and demanding that we deal with the crud and the sludge that we generally prefer to keep buried.  The intensity of this configuration is flowing over us like a mood, but it sets the stage for the current moon cycle.
As we go within and get quiet with the new moon, and as we plant the seeds of intention for the next 4 weeks, there are elements to be reckoned with that might not feel at all pretty or convenient.  However, the uncomfortable elements (shadows, if you will) being unearthed by Mars in Scorpio are truly necessary to our growth and development at this time.  May we let the lightness and global vision of Aquarius steer us towards working with our shadows to connect in deeper ways and take in the bigger picture.  In the words of Maya Angelou, Aquarius knows without a doubt: “The truth is, no one of us can be free until everybody is free.”
New Moon in Capricorn
The Capricorn New Moon is exact today at 5:31 pm PST.  I like that Sun, Moon and Mercury will all be rooted in the disciplined sign of Capricorn at this time – along with Pluto, whose long rendezvous with the Goat will last a total of 16 years, from January 2008 to January 2024!
This is a lot of focused energy in Capricorn’s sensible terrain.  Sun is our identity, karma and purpose.  Moon is inner-awareness and emotions.  Mercury (who is retrograde) is the mind, curiosity, scrutiny and communication.  Finally, we have Pluto – representing desires and soul-contracts.
New Moon is about intention setting.  Capricorn says less talk, more action.  She gives us drive and stamina.  She is ruled by Saturn, our planet of structure, focus and hard work.  Universally, Capricorn rules the 10th House of career, status and reputation.  However, to see where all this Capricorn energy is affecting you personally, you must look at the area of your natal chart that is ruled by the Goat – tracking planetary transits in our own lives is fascinating and eye opening.
We are being asked to remember what we came here for.
New Moon in Capricorn is fabulous for planning and creating order in our lives.  It is an auspicious time to begin new projects that are long-term and require commitment.  It might feel easier, or even unavoidable, to cut through bullshit today – yours or someone else’s.
La Luna will go void-of-course tomorrow morning at 9:39 am, but not for long.  She will enter Aquarius at 12:23 pm, which will shift the energy toward freedom and creative expression.  Aquarius is the wild child, he shakes things ups and he demands liberation for all beings.
Today we root, we go within.  Tomorrow we fly.
Namaste!
